What Is Drug Addiction?

We know that drug addiction is a chronic and progressive brain disease.

It is characterized by:
  • spending more and more time satisfying your desire to use
  • continue to use despite negative consequences
  • being unable to stop when you want or need to
  • beginning to see areas of your life being negatively impacted by your alcohol or drug use

Drug addiction does not discriminate. It can affect ANYONE. If drug addiction runs in your family your risk for developing an addiction is higher.

Drug addiction is treatable. It begins with admitting you have a problem and then asking for help.
