Atlanta based psychotherapist Karen Ryan has worked in the field of addiction since the late 1980’s. Starting out at Brawner Psychiatric Institute, she worked in the Partial Hospitalization and Outpatient Recovery Program. She provided group therapy for alcoholism and drug addition, and led ongoing Aftercare Groups for long term sobriety. Karen also provided comprehensive assessments for addictions and developed treatment planning for patients. With a background in education, Karen has provided psycho-education, lectures, and workshops with a focus on addiction and codependency. Karen was also extensively involved in Family Programs at Brawner, providing therapy and psycho-education for loved ones impacted by the disease of addiction. She co-led a Codependency Groups for family members and significant others. She served as the Program Coordinator for Outpatient Recovery Services at Brawner.
Karen also co-led groups for the Evening Intensive Outpatient Program treating addictions at Peachford Hospital for several years during the 1990’s.
In the early 1990’s Karen also entered into her private practice, offering individuals, couples and family therapy. She has worked with substance abuse, codependency, anxiety and depressive disorders along with relationship issues and stress management.
Since 2000 she and Sam Gloyd, LPC have provided group and family therapy in the Evening Recovery Program. Along with the program, they also provide long term recovery in their Aftercare Groups and follow-up, and couple and family therapy for clients and family members.
Karen is a Licensed psychotherapist and professional counselor. She has maintained ongoing education to remain up to date on the most effective forms of therapy in the field of drug and alcohol abuse. She has also been involved in an ongoing Consultation Group to receive ongoing expertise in what will be most beneficial for her clients.
Karen received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, graduating with honors. She received her Master's Degree in Counseling from Georgia State University.
